He was born in Shell Lake May 28, 1908 to Earl and Florence Wood Bitney and spent his early life here. He was a member of the U. S. Army from 1943 - 1963 and served in the Korean War. On Jan. 4, 1952, he was married to Babette Wolf in Zirndorf, Germany. After retiring from the Armed services, Bitney was employed as a janitor at Shell Lake High School and as a night watchman at the Shell Lake Boat Co. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Shell Lake. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Albert (Theresa) Stouffer, Shell Lake, a granddaughter, Jessie Stouffer; four brothers, Chester of St. Paul; Howard of Clayton, Ford of Hayward, Cal., and W. W. of Shell Lake; and three sisters, Ellen Pinney and Verna Bitney, both of Shell Lake, and Eva Stivers of Hayward, Cal. Funeral services were held March 30 at Salem Lutheran Church with Rev.
