He was a well known Swiss cheese maker. Funeral services were held at Lyle's Chapel Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 5, 1937, with Rev. R. Wichser officiating, and burial was in Nora cemetery. Mr. Dietrich came to this country about 25 years ago and engaged in the cheesemaking industry at Monroe, Wis., and in South Dakota for several years before 1920, when he came to Polk County, and a few years later, to Barron County. He had been active in cheesemaking since that time at Birchwood. In 1907 he was married to Bertha Kellar in Switzerland, and she survives him. Surviving also are two daughters and one son, Mrs. Ed Wiess of Birchwood, Mrs. John Matye of Almena, and Edward Dietrich of Glenwood. Two daughters and one son preceded their father in death. Two brothers and two sisters also survive, Adolph and Rosa in Switzerland, Edward of Deer Park, Wis., Mrs. Margaret Stocker and Mrs. Mary Peter of Monroe, Wis. All were present at the funeral except those in Switzerland and Mrs. Peter, who was too ill at the time. --Taken from the Washburn County Register, 14 January 1937, Shell Lake, Washburn Co., Wisconsin.
