This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Nance Sampson 17 February 1999 ==================================================================== GARBE, Albert Albert Garbe, well known resident of this community for nearly 56 years, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alfren Schubert, August 5, 1937, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 16 days. Death was caused by a lingering illness. Albert Garbe was born in Pommern, Germany, Jan. 20, 1860, where he grew to young manhood and on September 22, 1883, he was married to Bertha Rauchstadt at that place. They came to this country and resided in Shell Lake, where he worked in the saw mill. In 1899 they moved on a farm about 5 miles west of Shell Lake. In 1923 he quit farming and moved back to Shell Lake. In 1936 his health failed him and so stayed with his daughter until his death. His wife preceded him in death nearly 22 years ago. Seven children were born to them. Surviving include one son, Carl Garbe of Shell Lake, and two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Brown of Foreston, Minn., and Mrs. Alfred Schubert of Spooner, also one brother of Germany, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 7th, at 2 o'clock at the German Lutheran church. Rev. O. H. Martin officiating. Interment was made in the Shell Lake cemetery. Those from out of town that attended the funeral were Mrs. Thomas Brown, Mr. Arthur Brown, and Mrs. Walter Good, all of Foreston, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson and Geo. Baumgartner of Duluth, Minn., Misses Minnie, Emma, Willard and Herman Fisher of Faribault, Minn. --Taken from the Washburn County Register, Shell Lake, Washburn Co., WI, 12 August 1937.
