Miller, 77, of the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King and formerly of Baraboo, died on Wednesday, July 20, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. He was born in Spooner on Dec. 7, 1916, to Fred and Elsie (Hawkins) Miller. He married Marie C. Hong on Sept. 16, 1914, in Spooner. She preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 1993. Francis was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion in Baraboo and King, the 40/8 group, the Veterans of Foreign Wars at King, the Elks Club in Baraboo, and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baraboo. He worked at the Badger Ordinance Plant for more than 30 years. Survivors include three daughters, Kay (Darrel) Thurow, Whitewater, Barbara (James) Ritchie, Delavan and Darlene (Jeffery) Jonas, Mequon; eight grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; a sister, Helen (Lary) Michel, Spooner; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, and two brothers. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Main Chapel-Wisconsin Veterans Home, King. Interment was in Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
