Moen, 77, pioneer resident of this county and highly respected citizen of the town of Evergreen, died at his home in that town on Friday, July 1, following a short illness. News of his passing was received with deepest regret by neighbors and friends who mourn the death of a kind friend and neighbor and upright citizen. Deceased was born in Norway, Feb. 14, 1855, where he spent the early years of his life coming to this country with his parents in 1867 and locating at Black River Falls. He was married to Anna Jacobson on April 20, 1879 and lived in happy wedlock for 53 years until death's summons reached him. Peder O. Moen played an important part in the pioneer life of this community, having resided in the town of Evergreen during the past 45 years. It was through the hardships and privations that fell to the lot of early settlers and which he was called upon to share, that the wilderness was gradually transformed into homesteads and farms. The present day developments remain as an impressive monument to the memory of these brave men and women who braved the trials of the pioneer. Surviving relatives are the widow and five children; Mrs. C.E, Olson and Mrs. Wm. Pierce, of the state of Washington; Mrs. M.A. Johnson, of the town of Evergreen; Martin Moen, of the town of Spooner; and Mrs. S.G. Johnson of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Deceased also leaves 24 grandchildren and one brother and one sister, the latter two of Osseo, Wis. Two children preceded their father in death. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 3, from the home at two o'clock in the afternoon, Rev. Chatterson of the Methodist church officiating, and internment was made in the Evergreen cemetery. p82-1233 Microfilm at Wisconsin Historical Society, Madison WI
