She was born on June 10, 1912, in Illinois, daughter of John and Maude (Sanders) Anderson. She moved to the Hayward area as a child and was a graduate of Hayward High School. She and Robert Scribner were married on Feb. 14, 1939. They farmed in the Philipps area, and Ethel worked as a waitress for several resorts as well as assisting elderly persons in their homes. The couple moved to Earl where they owned and operated the Earl Restaurant until retiring in 1977. They moved to Hayward six years ago. Survivors include her husband, Robert "Jack", Hayward; a son, John Pfister, Waukegan, Ill.; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Myrtle (Ronald) Towne and Eunice (Michael) Dobnicker, both of Waukegan, Ill.; and Eleanor (Jim) Savala, Wadsworth, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dean and Clinton; and a sister, Edna. A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home, Hayward, with Pastor Menno Kuhns officiating. Visitation was for one hour prior to the service.
