This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Louise Hopkins 2 February 2000 ==================================================================== Fred Smith, Minong, Dies at Age 86 Fred Oscar Smith, age 86, a resident of the Town of Minong, passed away at the Spooner Memorial Hospital on Wednesday (18 Sept. 1974). He was born on November 17, 1887, in Nebraska and has living in the Minong area for the past 70 years. He was a farmer all of his life and was the Clerk of the Town of Minong for 20 years and Treasurer of the Town of Frog Creek for 10 years. He also served on the County level as a committeeman. His wife and one sone preceded him in death. Survivors include Sylvia Block and Leona Wheeler, and one son, Kenneth, all of Minong, also 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Blanche McGrath of Fond du Lac, and Etta Bos of Reedsburg. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong, Rev. John Gannett officiated. Burial was in the Minong Cemetery. Dahl Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
