This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Louise Hopkins 2 February 2000 ==================================================================== Lena Clara Smithwas born in the State of Nebraska on November 6, 1884, and came to the Minong community in 1902 and lived there since. In 1908 she was married to Fred Smith and to this union four children were born. She had been in failing health for the past two months and passed away on Wednesday, June 18 (1969), at the Shell Lake hospital at the age of 84 years. One son, one sister and her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband and three children, Mrs. Ernest Block (Sylvia), Mrs. Robert Wheeler (Leona), and Kenneth, all of Minong; also 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Clifford Clark (Emma) of Clover Dale, Oregon; two brothers William Welch of Minong, and Dewey Welch, Rice Lake, and many other relatives. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 20 (1969), at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong, Rev. Eldon Olson officiated, with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery, Minong. Dahl Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
