This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Don Hansen 13 January 2001 ==================================================================== DEAN RONALD THOMPSON OBIT The Spooner Advocate 07/05/1984, p12 Dean Ronald Thompson, age 60, a resident of Earl, passed away at the Spooner Community Memorial Hospital on Saturday, June 30, 1984. He was born January 7, 1924 at Earl and had lived in the area all of his life. For many years he had been employed as a farmer and for 32 years was employed by the Washburn County Highway Department where he served as assistant highway patrol superintendent. He was also employed as a milk hauler and drove a school bus for the Spooner School System He graduated from Spooner High School in 1943 and joined the Navy right after graduation. He served in the South Pacific on the USS Metcalf until 1946. In 1951 he was recalled to serve in the Korean War and served on the USS Luzon. He was discharged in 1952. He was a member of the Trego Community Church, Commander of the Sizer- Buchman American Legion Post No. 328, Past Master of the Spooner Lodge #260 F.& A.M., the Spooner Firing Squad, and a trustee of the Earl Cemetery Association. On August 3, 1949 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Butenhoff in Trego. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two sons, Lennie of Luck, Mark of Earl; one daughter, Barbara Koditek of Lino Lakes, Minn.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Louis of Superior and Wayne of Earl. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 3, at the Trego Community Church, Rev. Richard Lauger officiated. Burial was in the Earl Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner on Monday from 3-9 p.m. Masonic services were held on Monday at the funeral home.
