The submitter has given the USGenWeb Archives permission to store the file permanently for free access. *********************************************************************** Surnames: KISSINGER, DEXHEIMER, ROLL, SCHAETZEL, LEINS, JOECKEL, KOELSCH, JUEDES, DOERING, KELLER, ZIEGER, PFENNIG, KATZ, PFEIFER OBITUARY John Kissinger ************** Mr. John Kissinger, one of Washington County’s pioneers died at his home in Mayfield, Tuesday, August 26 of general debility, brought on by old age being 77 years, 4 months and 15 days old. He had shown signs of failing health for the past two or three years and from Monday morning August 25, until his death (7 o’clock the following morning) he lay in a state of unconsciousness. Mr. Kissinger was born in Dexheim Grossherzogthum Rheinhessen, Germany April 11, 1813. In the spring of 1842, at the age of 29, he came to America, landing in New York city, where he stayed a few weeks and then went to Wisconsin and took up a homestead in section 24, Town of Richfield this county. He was married to Miss Margaretha Dexheimer in 1845. Three children were born to them, Catharina, Christina and a son, name not given who died in infancy. He lost his wife December 9th 1847. Mr. Kissinger was married again, August 14, 1848, to Miss Elizabeth Roll. During their residence in Richfield five children were born to them, John, Elizabeth, John, Jacob and Louis. John, their first son, died in childhood and John, their second son died at Mayfield in his 26th year. In the spring of 1857 he moved his family to Mayfield where he in company with his brother-in-law, Jacob Schaetzel, bought the Mayfield Grist mill after being in the flouring business nearly three years he took up his residence on the farm which he owned at the time of his death. While residing at Mayfield three children were born to them. Fred, Henry and Charles. The funeral took place from the house Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock and remains were interred in the Mayfield cemetery, besides those of his wife and child. Mr. C. F. Leins and Ludwig Joeckel delivered the funeral address. The pall-bearers were Peter Koelsch, Charles Juedes, Herman Doering, John Keller, Traugott Zieger and Henry Pfennig. The deceased is survived by his five sons and three daughters. Jacob, Louis, Henry, Charles, Fred, daughters are Katie, Christina and Elizabeth. The relatives from out of town were Mrs. Claus and Mr. Henry Katz of Milwaukee and Mr. Charles Pfeifer of Plymouth.
