Nicholas Johannes passed away at his farm home in the town of Wautoma, Wednesday, March, 27, after a lingering illness with Brights disease. He has been a sufferer from the disease for many years and the twentieth of last December was compelled to go to bed and had failed steadily from that time until his demise. Deceased was born in Germany Sept. 26, 1830. He came to the United States in 1846 and settled near Racine, Wis. In 1860 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Fritz and to them five children were born, all of whom survive him. In 1872 Mrs. Johannes died and he was married the following year to Mary Rose. As a result of this last union nine children were born, seven of whom together with their mother survive the deceased. In 1881 Mr. Johannes moved to Waushara County and settled on a farm in the town of Deerfield, where he resided until his death. He was an honorable citizen and a kind neighbor and had many friends who will long remember him for his kind deeds. He was a devoted member of the catholic church of this village and the funeral services were held in that church Saturday with interment in the Catholic cemetery west of this village.
