He was born in Canada, opposite Montreal, in Naperville Co., June 29, 1835. He settled in Oshkosh in 1859, in June, and began blacksmithing. He began business on his own hook April 10, 1862; built his present large shop in 1877. He has been burned out two different times on his present location. He was married, Jan. 22, 1860, to Miss Catharine Cary, who was born in Ireland in October, 1835. They have three children- A. Theodore, Mary F. and Thomas P. Mr. C. is one of the enterprising workmen of this city, and now occupies a fine shop.
