Biography: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Thomas Higgins ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, December 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ History of northern Wisconsin: containing an account of its settlement, growth, development, and resources, an extensive sketch of its counties, cities, towns and villages, their improvements, industries, manufactories, biographical sketches, portraits of prominent men and early settlers, views of county seats, etc. Chicago: Western Historical Co., 1881 p. 1149 Thomas Higgins, of the firm of Higgins Bros., proprietor of the gas works; was born in Roscommon Co., Ireland, Nov. 9, 1848; came to the United State in 1850 with his parents; they located at first in New Jersey, but some twelve years later they moved to Sterling, Ill.; at the age of twenty-two years, the subject of this sketch engaged in railroad contracting in Illinois and Ohio; about 1876, he went to Florence, Ohio, and built gas works; had previously built works at Dixon, Ill., and at Waterloo, Iowa; the latter he sold; came to Neenah, Wis., in 1878, and opened gas works. He was married in Neenah Nov. 6, 1879, to Miss Mary Gaffney, of Neenah; they have one daughter- Eva M.
