Houghton, lawyer, was born in the town of Ogden, Monroe Co., N.Y., Dec. 21, 1849. Came to brown Co., Wis., in 1866; resided there until 1870, he then entered Lawrence University, at Appleton; remained there until he graduated in 1876, afterward was principal of school at Wausau for four years. He read law in the office of Carpenter & Smith, Milwaukee, and was admitted to the bar in 1879. In May, 1880, he commenced practice in Oshkosh. Mr. Houghton was married at Weyauwega, Wis., Sept. 29, 1877, to Mary J. Balch, also a graduate of Lawrence University, and a classmate of his in that institution; she was born at Weyauwega. They have two children- Laura Madge and Mary Ruth.
