S. B. Lawrence, lumberman and logger, settled in Oshkosh in 1855, and began
lumbering in winter of 1855-56.  He employed about 65 men in winter of
1881, and gets out from one-half to five million feet per annum, and sells
to manufacturers in Oshkosh and Fond du Lac.  He was born in Winslow, Me.,
Jan. 31, 1824; he began lumbering for himself at the age of eighteen years
on the St. Croix River,  in Washington, Me., which he followed until 1854,
at which time he went to Oshkosh, Wis., and since settling there has made
the above his business.  He was married in Springfield, Me., Sept. 15,
1849, to Miss Nancy A. Craig, who was born in Providence, N. B.  They have
five children living- Gustave, Carrie S., Samuel B., Jr., Matt and Dwight;
Carrie S. is married to Mr. G. Metz who is engaged in the leather business
in Oshkosh
