Louis Schwalenk, paints and oils; commenced business in 1875; carries stock
of about $3,000; was born in Leipsic, Prussia, Dec. 15, 1824; came to the
United States in 1850, and located in Winnebago Co., and engaged in
farming; came to Oshkosh in the fall of 1853, and commenced in 1854 the
saloon and grocery business; was for a time brewing in the county, but lost
his buildings by fire in 1864; was in the saloon and grocery business off
and on about twenty-two years; married in Germany, March 7, 1850, to Miss
Rosina Meisener; they have two children living- Alvina, now Mrs. E.
Beigler, and Emma.
