ALYEA EXPIRES AT HOSPITAL Was Last Surviving Member of Family That Settled in Vicinity Century Ago. The last member of a pioneer Winnebago county family that settled in this vicinity nearly 100 years ago, George Edward Alyea, 74, of 79 Bond street, passed away at 2:45 o'clock this morning at Mercy hospital. Mr. Alyea was born in Winneconne, July 22, 1869, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Alyea. The deceased's parents settled near the village of Winneconne in 1849 while Indians still roamed this vicinity. In 1888 the family moved from the farm to the village and resided there for many years. George came to Oshkosh with his wife and family 39 years ago. For several years he was custodian at the Frontenac apartments on High street and was active in that work until about two weeks ago when he became ill. He was the last survivor of the original Alyea family of 11 children. Fifty-one years ago on Thanksgiving day at Winneconne he married Augusta Labes, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Edward Alyea, Mrs. Walter Scheinert and Mrs. Violet Conroy, all of Oshkosh; three grandchildren, Mrs. Robert Ritschke, Jean and Richard Scheinert and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Spikes & McDonald funeral home. The Rev. Hugh A. Misdall will officiate. Interment will be in the family lot at Winneconne. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening and up to the time of the services.
