Arnold One of the Early Day Postmasters of Oshkosh Passes Away at Baraboo The remains of the late Gamallel A. Arnold, a pioneer resident of this city, last Monday morning and interred at Riverside cemetery, with a brief funeral service, conducted at the grave by Rev. E. R. Haff, assistant rector of Trinity Episcopal Church. Mr. Arnold was well known and esteemed by the older residents. He came here in pioneer days, and was identified with the early business progress of the city. He was one of the early postmasters of Oshkosh. He was born Dec. 7, 1822, and was therefore seventy-eight years of age at the time of his death. For the past seven years he and his wife resided with a daughter in Baraboo and a portion of the time with a son in Antigo. He was seized with a stroke of paralysis in December last and died on the 27th. His aged wife, who was with him when he suffered the stroke, fell at his feet stricken with paralysis. Hedr condition was critical for some time and although she has somewhat improved, she is helpless and very feeble. The remains of Mr. Arnold were placed in the cemetery vault at Baraboo during the critical illness of the wife. Mrs. Arnold is a sister of Mrs. Edward Eastman of this city and Mr. Arnold was a brother of Mrs. C.H. Forbes. A daughter, Mrs. B. Brewer of Baraboo, and a son, Mr. Frank Arnold of Antigo, are the children surviving. Mr. Arnold at an early day was a member of the New York legislature.
