Austria, a former Winneconne boy, was instantly killed in a auto accident at Chicago last Friday evening, Nov. 1, at about 10:30 o'clock. He was driving a car along and at the junction of Sacramento and Jackson boulevards the car struck a projecting corner of the curbing and turned turtle hurling its occupants out with considerable force. The impact with the concrete pavement instantly killed Mr. Austria. A Mr. Hurley, who was in the machine with him, was probably fatally injured but still alive at last reports. Ray Brownell, a third occupant of the car, was thrown fully twenty feet, but escaped with but a few scratches. Walter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Austria, of this village, and was born at Eureka on the 18th day of November, 1892. When still in his early years his parents moved to this village, where they have since resided. About a year ago he was offered a position with Selx, Schwab & Co., shoe manufacturers of Chicago, which he accepted, and only a few days ago he had been promoted to the position of house salesman. The sad news of his untimely death was received here late Friday evening shortly after the accident. Early Saturday morning, Fred Klaus, Jr., went to Chicago in response to the message. The body was accompanied to this village, Saturday, by Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Rusco and Arthur Austria, of Chicago, Mrs. Wm. E. Roberts, of Milwaukee, and Fred Klaus Jr. Besides his parents he leaves to mourn his loss four sisters, Mrs. H.W. Rusco, Chicago; Mrs. J.H. Williams, Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. W.E. Roberts, Milwaukee' Mrs. F. Klaus, Jr., Winneconne, and four brothers, Dr. Wm. F., of Merill; Albert, Omro; Paul G, Waycross, Ga.; and Arthur, of Chicago. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church, Tuesday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. J.S. McGreaham officiating.
