Barfknecht Expires. Veteran of Franco-Prussian War Passes Away at His Home on Twentieth Street. Frederick Barfknecht died Thursday night at 10:10 o'clock at his home on Twentieth street, after an illness since last December with cancer. Mr. Barfknecht was born September 28, 1848, in Winenfeldt, Pommern, Germany. He married Miss Martha (note: this is an error-evidence shows this is Bertha) Mueller in 1871, and came to America, settling in Oshkosh. His age was sixty-two years. The deceased was employed by the Diamond Match company in charge of the box-making department for eighteen years, and then he engaged in the meat business on Oregon street. Several years ago he retired and removed to a farm on Twentieth street. He was a veteran of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71. Those who survive are a widow, three sons, two daughters, one brother, and three sisters, and three grandchildren. The sons are: Albert Barfknecht of Bismark, N.D.; Otto Barfknecht of Roundup, Mont., and William Barfknecht of this city. The daughters are Mrs. R. E. Marquardt and Miss Emma Barfknecht, both of this city. The brother is William Barfknecht of Shawano and the sisters are Mrs. John Wenck (should be Wruck) of Eldorado, Mrs. W. Sperbeg (should be Sperberg) and Mrs. W. W. Wendorf of Shawano. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the Eighth street Lutheran church, Rev. Mr. Ahl officiating. The deceased was a member of the Concordia society and of the Unterstnetzen verein. August 30, 1909 - From the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern - Barfknecht Funeral The funeral services of the late Frederick Barfknecht were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the residence on Twentieth street, and at 2:30 o'clock at the Eighth street Lutheran church. Rev. Mr. Ahl officiating. The attendance was large, the deceased being a member of the Concordia Unterstuetzung verein, which attended in a body, and marched in the procession. The floral tributes were numerous. The pallbearers were Gustave Lightfuss, Fred Procknow, Albert Simdors, Albert Knaak, John Wohit, and Frank Otto.
