He was the eldest son of James Frederick and Abigail Tabor Bishop. When he was 17 years old his father died and he was the same as a father to his five sisters and his only brother J.F. Bishop, late of Winneconne township, was but one year old. He was united in marriage to Estella Evans at Oswego, N.Y., February 6, 1860. Five children blessed this union, the eldest a son died in infancy. The children surviving him with the widow are Gurdon E. Bishop of Sterling, Ill., James H. Bishop of Ladd, Ill., and Mrs. Loretta Rogers of this city. there are four grand-children, E.R. Bishop of Sterling, Ill., Mrs. Hubert Miller of the town of Winneconne, Ellis Roblee of Neenah, and Rilla Rogers of this city, and three great-grandchildren, Stanley and Scott Miller and Howard Roblee. April 17, 1871 the family came to the village of Winneconne, where they have resided continuously since. He was a carriage maker by trade, and he conducted a shop in this city for many years. He was a man that was always congenial and well liked by his neighbors, and was an upright and stalwart man, one who if he passed his word, considered it as good as his bond. He can rightly be considered one of the pioneers of this village. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from his late residence, Rev. Fed G. Codd officiating. The pallbearers were his sons G.E. Bishop, J.H. Bishop, his son-in-law C.W. Rogers, his grand-sons Ellis Roblee and Huber Miller and Austin Doughty, an old neighbor. In spite of the inclemency of the weather a large number of old friends were in attendance.
