Brown, wife of Armor M. Brown, died today at her home 496 Jackson street. She was 79 years old. The funeral will be held Tuesday. Daily Northwestern March 7, 1891 Obituary On the Death of Mrs. Clarissa E. Brown Mrs. Clarissa E. Brown, daughter of Cyrenius and Sarah Howe, was born in Cherry Valley, Schoharie county, New York, January 31, 1812, and was married to Armor M. Brown at Conkline, Broome county, New York, June 22, 1831. Thirty-five years ago they moved to this state, settling at Baraboo, Sauk county. In 1866 they moved to this city, where they have since lived. Mrs. Brown died Feb. 21, 1891, aged seventy-nine years and twenty-one days. She was the last of a large family of twelve children. She was a descendant of the Howe family, of which the late Senator Howe of Green Bay was connected. That family held a large family gathering at Philadelphia, Pa., a number of years ago. Her life may truly be said to have been one of continual usefulness to her family and friends, and her death, even at this later period, is a loss that is deeply felt. In the last five years of her life she endured the most excruciating suffering without a murmur, and breathed out her life in the bright prospect of a Christian's faith. For fifty years she was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Ten years ago Mr. and Mrs. Brown celebrated their golden wedding. Deceased leaves an aged husband and four children to mourn the loss of a loving and gentle wife and mother. The oldest son Bela E. Brown died in 1880. Of those remaining, three reside in this city, David L. Brown, Mrs. L.J. Heylman and Mrs. Frederick H. Green. Another daughter is Mrs. William Dean of Beaver Dam. Deceased was the grandmother of twenty-five grand children and seven great grandchildren. She was a great lover of the beautiful, and many were the beautiful pieces of art made by her hands. Pen and tongue fail alike to tell of her many kind and gentle acts. Of the relatives that attended the funeral from abroad were her daughter, Mrs. William Dean of Beaver Dam, Alba E. Brown and Mrs. Henry Tinkham of Baraboo, Sherman Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jones of Milwaukee, grand children of the deceased. The services were conducted by the Rev. J.S. Lean, pastor of the First Methodist church.
