Cringle, father of Mrs. E.N. Conlee, died yesterday afternoon at the residence of his daughter at the ripe old age of 82. The cause of his death was general debility. He had been gradually failing for several years. Deceased was a native of Birmingham, England, and in his youger days was a seafaring man and at one time commanded a vessel from which he gained his title of captain. His experience on the sea was filled with many interesting and romantic incidents which, in his declining years, he loved to recount to his friends and to the children who delighted to listen to his stories of sea life and to carry away with them pictures of ships he drew for them. After coming to this country Captain Cringle engaged in the lumber trade at Belvedere, Ill., and for a number of years carried on a large and successful business in that line. About fifteen years ago, when advancing years began to toil upon his physical powers, he and his wife come to Oshkosh and took up residence with their only daughter, Mrs. Conlee, with whom they have lived with ever since lived. Capt. Cringle was a Mason of high degree but on account of his advanced age he did not associate himself with any of the local lodges since removing to this city. The funeral will be held from the house on Church street at 1:30 o’clock Sunday.
