Callies, a Milwaukee railroad man, was killed when the automobile he was riding in collided with a truck on highway 15 near Goldendale. Mr. Callies was 45 years of age. He was born in Oshkosh and moved to Milwaukee about eight years ago. He served two terms as city assessor for the east side of Oshkosh. He was elected to the office in 1907. He was the son of pioneer residents, Charles and Mary Callies. His father died a number of years ago. His mother passed away in Jan. 1925 at the age of 83 years. Walter Callies is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Mamie Meyer of Oshkosh, and seven children; Mrs.Francis Murphy, Anna, John, Anthony, Walter, Charlotte and Gerald, all of Milwaukee. He is also survived by a number of brothers and sisters; Frank Callies, Mrs. Frank Metz, Mrs. Francis Schloerb, and Mrs. William Kieckhafer, all of this city, Mrs. Frank Simons of Washington D.C. and Albert and William Callies, both of Racine. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning from St. Marys Catholic Church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Additional Comments: Walter J. Callies was given military honors by his Spanish American War comrades. Services were conducted at the grave by Commander Charles Potratz of Camp Nelson A. Miles. Taps were sounded.
