Campbell & Sons, died at his residence corner of Meadow and Park streets, Sunday morning, of congestion of the lungs, after an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Campbell had reached the ripe age of 78 years in October last. He was born in Argyle, Washington county, New York and previous to removing west lived for many years in Albany. He came to Oshkosh in 1858 and shortly afterwards bough Sanford Beckwith's half interest in a shingle mill, the other half of which was owned by Ripley & Mead. Subsequently he bought out Ripley & Mead's interest and organized the firm of Wm. Campbell & Sons, which has ever since been one of the leading lumbering concerns in this city. Of late years, however, he has taken no active part in the business, leaving the management entirely to his sons. The funeral will take place from the United Presbyterian church, on Church street, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. Campbell leaves a wife and seven or eight grown up children. A daughter is expected to-morrow from Albany, and a son living in the southern part of the state will arrive to-night.
