Miss Cheney was born on the farm now occupied by John Ralph, a mile and a half west of the village, in the year 1859, where for many years she made her home. Taking up teaching as her vocation she taught several years in Rusk county, homesteading a 100 acre farm in the southeast corner of the county near the Jump River. Three weeks ago she was taken to a sanitarium at Milwaukee for treatment of a disease that was overpowering her, but in spite of medical aid she failed rapidly, passing away Monday morning. She was known as an energetic and faithful W.C.T.U. worker. The funeral was held from the J.J. Tucker home in the village at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. She leaves a sister, Mrs. Surgeon of Sheldon, and a large number of friends.
