Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Christ CHRISTENSEN ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, November 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local July 20, 1916 p.1 Christ Christensen, an old veteran of the Civil War, died Sunday morning, spinal chobula being the cause, aged 70 years. Deceased had been a cripple for the past twenty-five years, and was so helpless that his wife had to help him in almost every move he was to make. His condition was caused from service he rendered the country during war time. Funeral services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran church here, conducted by Rev. Larson of Winchester, the Winchester choir being present rendering funeral hymns. Member of the Grand Army were also present. Deceased leaves a widow and brother Henry Christensen of Oshkosh, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Halvorsen of the village. The entire community, especially old residents, now recall the dutiful wife, who kept to the invalid's bedside all these years of his suffering, and even at the midnight hour, when Mr. Christensen was sleeping life away to death, Mrs. Christensen met her fate with much sadness, showing the vast amount of attention true love can pay, no matter the difficulties, and yet be contented in her life without complaint. Mrs. Christensen has shown an example for others to emulate, no matter the difficulties that fate might have in store for one, to have in mind: "for better or worse, till death do us part."
