Cross J.W. Cross, resident of Minneapolis for the past 20 years, died at the residence of his son, C.C. Cross, 3049 12th Ave., Feb. 21. Mr. Cross, who has been operating of the grain elevators here, went to work as usual last Monday, an about noon he had to go home and took to his bed, rapidly growing worse until the end came, Thursday evening. Mr. Cross had a wide acquaintance among the grain men of this city and Duluth, where he formerly resided. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters: C.C. Cross of Minneapolis, F.W. Cross of Dauphin, Can., Mrs. J.A. Schumacher of Duluth and Mrs. G.P. Paine of Lander, Wyo. The funeral was held from the residence at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment at Lakewood cemetery. Deceased was born at Kenosha, Wis. in 1846 and moved with the family to Winnebago county in 1847. In 1878 he came to Campbell, building there the first store building in which he conducted a general business. Later he sold and engaged in the grain business until the state grain inspection law was passed when he was appointed state inspector with headquarters at Duluth. After two years he was transferred to Minneapolis where he was on the state board of grain inspectors for 12 years, after which he engaged in the grain business up to the time of his death. Besides his immediate family the deceased leaves four brothers, J.S. and F.G. Cross of Winneconne, W.D. Cross of Staples, Minn., and W.H. Cross of Campbell.--News, Campbell, Minn.
