Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Dominick GAVIN ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, November 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local November 17, 1913 p.8 Death of an Old Pioneer On Tuesday evening, Nov. 11, 1913, at 6 o'clock, occurred the death of Dominick Gavin, one of Poygan's most highly respected citizens. Mr. Gavin was born in the county of Galway, Ireland, on May 1st, 1822. When he was about 25 years of age he came to this country and worked in the state of New York a few years later he came on to Wisconsin and purchased a farm. He then went back to New York City where he met and married Miss Marie Kelly at St. Andrew's church on Sept. 6, 1868. He came on to Chicago and lived there three years, coming back to the farm where he has since lived. He is survived by his widow and five children, Edward of New Orleans, La., James of Poygan, Michael, Mrs. W.R. Dowling and Mr. Wm. Broderick, all of Winneconne, and eighteen grandchildren. The funeral took place Friday morning, Nov. 14, from the St. Thomas Catholic church at Poygan, and the remains were laid at rest beside those of his two sons, Thomas and Dominick.
