Augustus Hammond died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Elliott, in
the town of Poygan, April 16, at the age of 85 years.  Mr. Hammond was born
near Portland, Maine, on Aug. 19, 1828, and was one of a family of ten boys
and four girls, some of whom came with him to Poygan.  In 1850 he took up a
homestead upon which he lived almost continuously up to the time of his
death.  There remains to mourn his loss one daughter, Mrs. Chas. Elliott of
Poygan, one song, Nelson Hammond, of Sodi, S.D., and one brother, John
Hammond of Poygan.  Funeral services were held Sunday , April 19, conducted
by Rev. J.W. Stewart, with interment in the Oak Hill cemetery.
