B. Hayes Expires at Her Home Monday Evening Mrs. Frances (Schontz) Hayes, widow of the late E. B. Hayes and vice president of the E. B. Hayes Machine company, died at the home of her son, Joseph F. Hayes, 217 New York avenue, at ten o'clock Monday evening. She had been an invalid for nearly two years, and during the last six weeks had been seriously ill. Death was due to uremic poisoning. A turn for the worse in her condition came three days ago, when all hope was given up. Several times in the course of her illness she had been considered as in great danger, but up to this week it was believed that she would recover. Mrs. Hayes was unconscious at the time of her death. Mrs. Hayes was born in Glens Falls, N. Y., in March, 1839, and was therefore sixty-seven years of age. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Schontz. She spent her girlhood at her birthplace, and at the age of eighteen was married in Mr. Hayes, who died in 1964. Their golden wedding anniversary would have been celebrated a year ago if Mr. Hayes had lived. For a time the family lived in Big Rapids, Mich., and in 1866 they came to Oshkosh, where Mr. Hayes founded in 1895 the company which bears his name. After Mr. Hayes' demise Mrs. Hayes made her home with the family of her son, remaining there up to the time of her death. She was particularly lovable woman, esteemed by all who knew her. Her loss will be much deplored in this city. There are surviving three children, Joseph R. Hayes of Oshkosh, S.V.R. Hayes of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. F. W. A. Brown of this city. A first born child, Louisa, died in infancy and is buried in New York state. There are several brothers and sisters, all deceased, and several grandchildren. The funeral will be held from the residence at two o'clock Saturday afternoon with services in charge of Rev. Edward H. Smith of the First Congregational church. Interment will take place at Riverside cemetery.
