Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Robert Samuel HAYWARD ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, January 2010 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.org/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Omro Journal September 3, 1896 p.1 Robert Samuel Hayward was born at Port Hope, Canada, April 2, 1820. He was of New England parentage, and was one of twelve children. When a boy he removed with his parents to Rochester, N.Y., and came to Green Bay, Wis., when about 20 years of age. He was married to Clarinda S. Wright in 1842, and in 1847 entered the ministry of the M.E. church. He was well known throughout the central portion of this state-- the scene of nearly fifty years of active and successful service in the Wisconsin Conference. One year ago, on account of failing health, he retired from the active work, and settled in Waupaca, expecting to enjoy a few years of quiet and rest; but the Master for whom he had labored so long, had ordained otherwise, and on the afternoon of Aug 6, he passed triumphantly to his rest, mourned by a host of friends, who arise and call him blessed. The funeral sermon was preached in the church at Waupaca, by Rev. Samuel Jolliffe, on the morning of Aug. 10, the interment being made in the Omro cemetery on the afternoon of the same day.
