Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Emilia HOFFMAN ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, November 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local August 17, 1916 p.1 The death of Emilia Hoffman, one of the oldest settlers of this vicinity occurred Saturday morning at half past one after an illness of stomach trouble for about two months. She died at the family home about five miles north of the village. She was born April 10, 1844, in the village of Romanshof, Posen, Germany, thus reaching the age of 72 years, 4 months and 2 days. In 1855, when she was 11 years of age she came to America with her parents, and moved to the town of Winchester. In 1862 she was married to Henry Hoffman and a year after their marriage they bought a homestead in the town of Winneconne where she lived until her death. Their union was blessed with two daughters and two sons, one of whom has preceded the mother in death. August 4, 1912 they celebrated their golden wedding. They were former members of the German Lutheran church in the town of Winchester but as soon as the congregation was organized at Winneconne they joined here. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, and Mr. B. Ehlke of the town of Winneconne and Mrs. Bell of Dale and one son Ripley, who resides on the homestead, and two sons-in-laws and one daughter-in-law, seventeen grandchildren and two brothers and two sisters. Deceased was a faithful wife, kind mother and a true Christian. The funeral was held Monday afternoon with services at one o'clock at the residence and at two o'clock at the German Lutheran church, Rev. O.T. Hoyer, pastor officiating. The interment took place at the Winneconne cemetery.
