Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Rebecca JACKSON ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Daily Northwestern May 30, 1929 p. 4 Pioneer Passes Away Following a Long Illness Mrs. Rebecca Jackson, Widow of Pioneer Lumberman, Dies at Her Home- Funeral Friday Mrs. Rebecca Jackson, widow of Andrew Jackson, a resident of Oshkosh nearly all her life, died late Wednesday afternoon at her residence, 295 Algoma boulevard. Death followed an illness of several weeks. Her sister, Miss Flora Corrine Doe, also practically a life-long resident of this city, died May 21. Mrs. Jackson was born at Eldersville, Pa., Dec. 31, 1850. She was formerly Miss Rebecca E. Doe, daughter of William H. and Elizabeth Doe. The family came to Oshkosh in 1854, making the trip in a covered wagon. The city was then a small community and the family became prominent in its activities, greatly aiding its upbuilding. The deceased was united in marriage to Andrew Jackson, Aug. 29, 1869. Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the civil war. He was a prominent lumberman in this city and was active in work for the welfare of the community. He preceded Mrs. Jackson in death, having passed away in 1907. Mrs. Jackson is survived by one sister, Mrs. S. C. Sangston, of Denver, Colo.; her son, Carl D. Jackson, of New York; and four grandchildren, Catharine, Carol, Andrew and Jane Jackson, of Pelham Manor, New York. Mr. Jackson is connected with a law firm in New York. He was formerly a member of the Wisconsin railroad commission. Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Trinity Episcopal church. She was also a member of the Leisure Hour Art club, the Ladies' Benevolent society and the Study class. Funeral services will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. Joseph N. Barnett, rector of Trinity Episcopal church, will be the officiating clergyman. He will be assisted by Rev. Edward H. Smith. Interment will be in the family lot at Riverside cemetery.
