Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Mrs. Nathan JOHNSTON ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, July 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Daily Northwestern July 27, 1891 Asleep in Death Mrs. Johnston's Peaceful End Mrs. Nathan Johnston died suddenly of heart disease Sunday morning at her home just west of the city limits. Mrs. Johnston had been in perfect health until last Friday. On that day she was suddenly attacked quite seriously, but she seemed to have recovered from it. She sat up Saturday and in the evening she retired about ten o'clock, feeling very well. Sunday morning she was found dead in her bed. Her end was quiet. She suffered no pain. Her heart stopped beating and she passed away as if in a sleep. Mrs. Johnston was born in North Anson, Me., on April 30, 1839. In 1848 she was married to Mr. Johnston and immediately after her wedding she came to this city, which has been her home since that time. She leaves a husband and two children, Charles Johnston and Mrs. Herbert Pew, both of this city. Mrs. Ansel Tobey and Mrs. Frank Jones of this city are her sisters, and Mark Snell and Frank Snell of Marshfield, are her brothers. She also has two sisters in Maine and two brothers in California, one in Colorado and one in Massachusetts. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock from her home. James Johnston of Chicago, is in the city and Mrs. Snell of Marshfield and Mr. Pew are expected. Mrs. Johnston was widely known in this city. She was a woman who lived for her family and her friends and their comfort was ever her first thought. Many will recall her numerous acts of kindness which she was always ready to bestow. Her life was full of the good will of all her acquaintances and her death is followed by deep sorrow and the heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved family.
