Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Valentine KOHLMANN ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, June 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Daily Northwestern April 15, 1890 A Pioneer's Death Valentine Kohlmann Dies One of the Former Editors of the Wisconsin "Telegraph" Passes Away this Morning. Valentine Kohlman, formerly one of the proprietors of the Wisconsin Telegraph died this morning about seven o'clock at the residence of his brother Charles Kohlmann on upper Algoma street. General debility is assigned as the cause of his death. For about four years Mr. Kohlmann has suffered from a paralytic shock and of late he has failed quite rapidly. He was about seventy-four years of age and was an early resident of this city, having located here in 1852. In company with his brother he engaged in the printing business, and soon the two established the Wisconsin Telegraph, the German weekly newspaper, which gained a wide circulation and proved a profitable financial venture. A few years ago the brothers sold it to Allen & Weidner. Valentine Kohlmann was a man highly respected for many excellent traits of character and unlike many newspaper men his enemies were comparatively few, if indeed he had an enemy. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon from the residence, and Professor Marin is expected to officiate. The North Side Turner society, of which the deceased was a member, will probably participate in the services.
