Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Mathilda KRAUSE ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, November 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local August 10, 1916 p.1 Mathilda Krause, wife of Karl Krause, was born at Guschin, near Krokrov, Germany, on Nov. 23, 1855. In 1879 she was married to Karl Krause at Guschin, Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Krause and children came to America in 1892, making their home in Winneconne. She was a life long member of the German Lutheran church. At the time of death she was a member of the congregation here. Mrs. Krause was always robust and healthy with the exception of the last year of her life, when stricken with a cancer. For some time before her trouble was learned much anxiety existed among her family, neighbors and friends, as to the cause of the woman's failure in keeping her usual, robust health. After time went by it was learned that the beloved lady was afflicted with a cancer- that horrible, terrible life eating affliction which causes the conscience of any person to be given up to their God, a feeling that life on earth is of even shorter duration than the ordinarily short time the individual is placed here for- the kind of affliction that the patient, Christian, loving woman realized was unlooked for and unwelcomed, but now seeing that it had come as God's will, she would bear her burden and leave the world with faith in Her Maker. Shortly before her demise another more thorough diagnosis was made by attending physicians, so as to be assured no earthly means existed to spare the woman's life, all of which showed death was near. This happened Wednesday previous to death, revealing that the sufferer would not live 24 hours. Thursday morning at 8 o'clock she passed to the Beyond at the age of 60 years 8 months and 11 days. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, two sons, five daughters, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law and two grandchildren. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sat. from St. Paul's Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. O.T. Hoyer, and interment was made in the village cemetery. Mrs. Krause was a faithful member of her church, a loving wife, a dear mother and a kind neighbor. Her friends and acquaintances in this village deeply regret her departure.
