Lawrence, for many years a prominent lumberman of this city, died Friday afternoon at four o'clock at her home, 421 Washington street. She was a constant sufferer for the past four months. In the past week she failed rapidly and the end was feared some time before she passed away. She was seventy-five years of age and was numbered among the oldest residents of Oshkosh, having lived here for the past forty-five years. In the death of Mrs. Lawrence, was lost a loving mother and a kind and sincere friend. She was a woman possessed of a beautiful christian character. Her many friends, the young as well as the old, will learn of her death with deep sorrow, for she was widely known and respected. She was a member of the St. John's Universalist church and up to the time of her final illness was a constant attendant and an earnest and diligent worker in the church. She was also one of the leading members of the Old Settler's club of this city, and the members of this organization will especially miss her. Mrs. Lawrence was born in St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Sept. 15, 1825. Nov. 15, 1843, she was married to the late Samuel B. Lawrence, at Springfield, Me. They resided for some years in Springfield and then removed to Millbank, Me., from which they came to Oshkosh, settling in 1856. Mr. Lawrence embarked in the lumber business in the early days of its prosperity and made a success of it. Mrs. Lawrence is survived by three daughters and three sons. The daughters are Mrs. Grace Ash of this city, formerly of Chicago, Mrs. Sheldon Van Cleave, of Redlands, Cal., and Mrs. Frank Waters of this city. The sons are Matt Lawrence, Dwight C. Lawrence and Samuel B. Lawrence, all of this city. Two sisters, Mrs. Henry Hayter of Shawano, Wis., and Mrs. William Maxwell of Maxwell's Crossing, New Brunswick, also survive. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at two o'clock with services at the residence, Rev. F. H. York of the St. John's Universalist church officiating.
