The household was alarmed and became specially grieved by the suddenness of his death. Deceased was born in Zackenziegen, Pommerania, Germany, May 8, 1840, becoming married to Miss Minnie Smerling in 1868. They came to this country in 1872, residing in New York for awhile, and afterward at Chicago for three years. Then they came to Poygan where they purchased a farm in 1884, where they lived 24 years on the homestead until he died. He leaves a wife and three sons, Carl, Fred Jr., and Otto and nine grand children survive his loss. Funeral services were held Sunday from the home at two o'clock, burial being in Blackburn cemetery, Rev. O.T. Hoyer conducting the services.
