Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Herman LUEBKE ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, November 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local December 14, 1916 p.1 Herman William Luebke was born Dec. 19, 1850 at Wismar, Pommern, Germany. He was baptized in his faith at this place, and latter his parents removed to Reesel, Germany, where, when eleven years of age he was confirmed in his faith. His father died in 1872 which left deceased with the responsibility of managing the business owned by his father. After proving successful in the business world of the Fatherland he was married to Ernestine Berndt, October 28, 1877. Their union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters, though while yet in childhood one boy and one girl were taken in death. In the year of 1881 deceased joined with his relatives and taking his family all embarked for the land of America, and settled in Vinland, Winnebago county, where he worked on farm in the town of Vinland and also the town of Winneconne. Thence he rented a farm in the town of Vinland, where he resided for seven years. Later he purchased a farm in the town of Oshkosh where they lived eighteen years. n 1908 he and his wife went to reside with their daughter and son-in-law in the town of Winneconne, where they remained one and one-half years. In 1910 he purchased their property in Winneconne, where they lived until his death. Shortly after arriving here he and his family joined the Evangelical Lutheran St. John's congregation. He was among the originator of the Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul's congregation. When it was decided to build a new church, he held the responsibility of treasurer of the building committee. During the past year he was elected as trustee of the church. He showed great interest in the building and uplifting of the congregation and will long be remember for his effective work. Last May the deceased was taken ill. He recovered somewhat, but later his illness developed into cancer of the bladder, which took him in death last week. He leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife, and dutiful son and daughter, one son-in-law and one daughter-in-law, four brothers, one sister, one brother-in-law, four sister-in-laws and four grandchildren. Burial took place Saturday, December 9 in the Plummer cemetery in the town of Oshkosh, Rev. O. Hoyer conducting the service.
