MINER ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, August 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Daily Northwestern April 18, 1893 Death of Rev. Dr. Miner Word is received by Mrs. C.G. Parish of the death of her brother, Rev. Dr. N.W. Miner, formerly pastor of the First Baptist church of this city. It was a strange coincidence that Dr. Miner died on the same evening that Mr. Parish died in this city. Mrs. Parish had hardly more than attended her husband's funeral when she received word of her brother's death. Mr. Miner died in Paterson, N.J., and was buried today at Waterbury, Conn. Dr. Miner came to this city in 1872 and was pastor of the Baptist church for several years. It was during his pastorate that the old church on the corner of Merritt street and Jefferson avenue burned and the present new edifice on Church street was built. Dr. Miner went east among his old friends and raising about $6,000 toward the building of the new church. Of late years he has been superintendent of the Baptist Minister's home near New York city. Last year he visited Europe and on his return met with quite a severe accident which impaired his health. He was seventy-two years of age and leaves a second wife and two married daughters.
