Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Theodore NIELSON ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, November 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local May 7, 1914 p.1 Brought Here for Burial The funeral of Theodore Nielson was held from the Presbyterian church in the village, Tuesday afternoon, May 5, at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Nielson was formerly a resident of this village and was engaged in the mercantile business here for a number of years, and will be well remembered by many of this vicinity. Theodore Nielson was born at Mandal, Norway, on June 14, 1826. In the year 1850 he came to America and settled in this state, and a short time later he became engaged in the mercantile business at Buttes des Morts, a few years later moving his business to this village, where he cultivated a wide circle of friends and patrons. In 1887 he became interested in farming lands in Minnesota, these interests demanded so much of his time that in 1894 he closed out his mercantile business here and moved to Stevens County, Minn., where he was engage in farming until 1900, removing at that time to Chokio, Minn., where he spent the remaining years of his life, death occurring on May 2. He was married in 1863 to Lydia E. Pritchett, of this village, who survives him, together with two sons, Frank A. and Edward C. Nielson, of Oshkosh. Rev. Benjamin Freye conducted the funeral services.
