Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Lydia OAKES ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, November 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local July 29, 1915 p.1 Mrs. Lydia Oakes formerly of this village passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Oscar Johnston of Omro, Monday morning July 26th. She had been an invalid for several years and had been confined to her bed for the past nine months. Death was caused by apoplexy. Funeral was held at 1 o'clock Wednesday at the Presbyterian church at Omro. Interment at Waukau cemetery. Lydia Bennett was born at Norwich, Conn., March 14th, 1844 and came to Wisconsin, with her parents when ten years of age and settled on a farm near Delhi. She was married to Milford B. Oakes Jan. 1st, 1862 residing in that vicinity until 1882 when they moved to Winneconne where they resided until the death of Mr. Oakes which occurred three years ago. Since that time Mrs. Oakes had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. O. Johnston, at Omro. Those who survive to mourn her loss are five sons and one daughter: Walter Oakes of New London, Edwin of Winneconne, Richard of Oshkosh, Chas. of Shiocton, Roy of Ottomwa, Iowa, Mrs. Oscar Johnston of Omro and two sisters Mrs. Abbie Evart, of Eunis, Texas and Mrs. C. Welsh of Burton, Ohio.
