Oaks, an old resident of his section, passed away at the home of his son, Charles, at Shiocton, on Friday, August 30. Mr. Oaks was born in Oneida county, New York, on the 5th of April, 1841. In 1855 he moved with his parents to Wisconsin and settled in Winnebago county, where he had since lived. In the year 1862 he was married to Lydia Bennett. He was prominent member of the M.W.A. Lodge and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. At the time of his death Mr. and Mrs. Oaks were visiting with their son, Chas. at Shiocton, and all of his children were present when the end came. The remains were brought to this village Saturday and the funeral was held at the M.E. church in the village, Monday afternoon. Rev. Nix officiating. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, five sons, one daughter and a host of friends and other relatives. Those from away who attended the funeral were: W. Oaks, of Pittsville, Wis.; Charles Oaks and family, of Shiocton; Anson Oaks and family of Omro; Mrs. Jane Oaks of Delhi, and Mr. and Mrs. George LaBorde, of Oshkosh.
