Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Agusta RACE ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, November 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local Mar. 27, 1913 p.1 Succumbs Suddenly to Heart Failure The people of the village were grieved on Saturday to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Fred Race of heart failure. For several years Mr. Race has been suffering from heart trouble and two years ago survived a most severe attack. The suddenness and fatality of the last attack was wholely unexpected. Mrs. Gust Abendroth had called up her with a jar of butter, and Mrs. Race went to the pantry to get another jar to exchange. Upon reaching the door she collapsed and would have fallen had not Mrs. Abendroth went to her assistance and support. Mrs. Race expired almost immediately. Miss Agusta Abendroth was born on August 11, 1849 in Marienfluss, Germany. In May of 1873 she came to this country with a party of friends and was employed at Neenah. The same year on September 29, she was united in marriage, at Neenah, to Fred Race, shortly after moving onto a farm in the town of Winneconne south-west of the village, where they lived for thirty- one years. In the year of 1904 Mr. and Mrs. Race left the old homestead and moved to the village of Omro, where they lived a few months. The following year they came to this village, where they have since resided. She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, one son, Edw., a daughter, Mrs. A.H. Froenicke of Chicago; a foster daughter, Marie, who lived with them and a half-brother, Gust Abendroth, of the town of Winneconne, besides a wide circle of other relatives and friends. The funeral was held from the house at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday, and from the German Lutheran church at 2. Sermons in both English and German were spoken by Rev. O.T. Hoyer. Interment was made in the village cemetery.
