Radtke, Once Resident of Princeton and Official There, Passes Away John J. Radtke, 78, retired Oshkosh groceryman, passed away at 4 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, Edward W. Radtke, 179 Parkway after having been ill several months. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Radtke had been a resident of Oshkosh since 1909. During his residence here he had operated two grocery establishments, one on Parkway under the name of John J. Radtke & Son, and the other on High street. He retired in 1926. Before he came to this city he was prominent in civic affairs at Princeton, Wis., where he once was a city alderman. He operated and boat and wagon- making shop there for thirty years. He was treasurer of the Princeton Fire Insurance company, treasurer of the Princeton Turn Verein, and organization of gymnasts, and treasurer and paymaster, respectively of the Princeton and Oshkosh Krieger Verreins, soldier organizations. During the first years of his residence here, he participated as a member of the local Krieger Verein in the dedication of the monument to Carl Schurz, the German-American orator and statesman, located at the foot of Washington boulevard, near the Oshkosh Yacht club. Mr. Radtke was born in the province of Posen, Germany, July 2, 1852. [Photograph here] He came to America in 1876 and lived first at Potsdam, Minn., where he worked as a wagon maker. He was married in 1880 to Miss Amelia Henslin of Mackford Prairie, Green Lake county, and moved to Princeton in 1883. The deceased's survivors are two sons, Edward and Oscar, of this city, one grandson, Elmer Radtke, of Neenah; two granddaughters, Lucille and Evelyn Radtke, of Oshkosh; a sister Mrs. Carl Stahm, of Hague Saskatchewan Canada and one brother Julius Radtke, of Hayward, Wis. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Fiss & Bills funeral home, 69 church street and at 3 o'clock at St. Paul's Evangelical church. Rev. Theodore Irion will be the officiating clergyman. Commitment will take place at the Princeton cemetery. The remains may be viewed at the funeral home until the time of the funeral Monday.
