All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ******************************************************************** OSHKOSH NORTHWESTERN AUGUST 17, 1927 PIONEER PASSES AWAY AI RICE, CIVIL WAR VETERAN AND RESIDENT OF CITY, THREE QUARTERS OF CENTURY DIES Ai Rice age 87 who for seventy-seven years has been a resident of this city died at he home of his great niece, Mrs. Martin Kolbus, 1006 Main st. Tuesday. Death was due to genereal debility brought about by advanced age. The deceased saw service in the civil war. He enlisted in Company K of the eleventh regiment wisconsin Infantry volunteers August 21, 1861. Before coming to Oshkosh at the age of 11years he lived with his parents in the state of New York. Following his four years of service in he Wisconsin Volunteers, Mr. Rice was a firm supporter of military discipline and though his patriotic efforts, one nephew served in the Spanish American War and eight great nephews responded to the service of the country during the world war. Surviving the deceased are three nieces, Mrs. P. Fink of Winneconne, Mrs. Carrie Johnson of Canada, and Mrs Martha Stevens of Berlin. four nephews George M. Rice of Sauke Center Minn. Alfred Worden of Oshkosh, and Charles Seeley Rice and James M.Rice of the state of Washington. Eighteen great nieces and twenty two great nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Emmerson Bronson Funeral home at Omro, Friday with interment in one of Omro cemeteries.
