Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Kate (Wirtz) SCHANO ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, December 2004 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Winneconne Local August 2, 1917 p.1 Mrs. Anton Schano of the town of Winneconne died Monday afternoon at six o'clock from internal cancer after being in poor health for more than six years. She is survived by her husband, ten children and three grand- children. Kate Wirtz was born on a vessel coming from Germany bound for Milwaukee. Twenty years ago she was married to Anton Schano at Glenwood, Minn., they afterward moving to Winneconne. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Mary's Catholic church, Rev. W. J. Luby officiating. Father Luby preached a sermon over the remains voicing comforting words to the sorrowful husband and the other mourners which partly relieved their sorrow for parting at the Great Divide, where her troubles are at an end waiting for her loved ones. Aug. Bohl, George Beiser and Harry Allen furnished cars for the funeral and Aug. Utecht, Mike Gavin, Paul Krings, Alex Krings, Anton Markert and Wm. Markert were pall bearers. L.H. Sterniske and Mrs. L.M. Miller were the undertakers, the corps being laid out and preserved in a most perfect condition. The interment was at St. Thomas' Catholic Cemetery in Poygan.
