Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Henry Kirk SHOEMAKER ************************************************************************ Submitted by Donna Connell, December 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Neenah Gazette Died. - In Neenah, February 16th of cerebro-spinal meningitis, Mr. Henry Shoemaker, son of Hiram Shoemaker, of this place. Mr. Shoemaker, who had been engaged in teaching during the past winter, had for some time previous to his last illness, which lasted only two days, been in poor health and illy fitted for the arduous duties of the schoolroom. They were, nevertheless, assumend and performed with a fidelity such as is rarely coupled with the most perfect physical ability, and which gained for him the affections of his pupils and the respect and esteem of the whole community in which he labored. Mr. Shoemaker is spoken of by those who have known him intimately from boyhood, as a young man of singular purity of character, whose sterling personal worth had earned him a host of friends, and whose offending life had made fewer enemies than are the heritage of most men at his, or any age. His untimely death excites the most profound and widespread regret, and the deepest commiseration for his bereaved family. His funeral took place in the First Presbyterian church last Sunday, attended by a large concourse of people including his former pupils in the body. The sermon by Rev. Mr. Babcock was a most earnest and impressive one, evolving a lesson from the sad occurrence which commanded the thoughtful attention of the whole congregation. Additional Comments: Henry was the son of Hiram Shoemaker and Mary E. Ford. He was a grandson of George Shoemaker and Nancy Churchill on his father's side, and a grandson of William E. Ford Sr. and Eliza Ann McBride on his mother's side. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/wifiles/ File size: 2.2 Kb
