Obituary: Winnebago County, Wisconsin: Georg STRAUB ************************************************************************ Submitted by Kathy Grace, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Daily Northwestern August 3, 1906 p.2 Aged Resident Expires Georg Straub Passes Away at the Residence of His Son-in-law, City Clerk Dan Witzel Georg Straub, an aged and highly respected resident of this city, died this morning at six o'clock at the home of his son-in-law, City Clerk Dan Witzel, 499 Otter street. He was over eighty-four years of age. Death was due to a cancer of the lower jaw, from which he had suffered for two years, an operation falling to afford relief. Up to one week ago he has been able to be about the house. Mr. Straub was born in Heaven Darmstadt, Germany, in February, 1832. He came to this country with his wife and children in 1865, and located in New York, where he practiced his trade, that of turner for seven years. At the time of the 1872 panic, he came to Wisconsin, and located on a farm in Waushara county, where he remained up to twelve years ago. Surviving him are a son, George Straub, of Los Angeles, Cal., and four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Harrey of Redgranite, Wis.; Mrs. Emma Kuntzendorff of Chicago; Mrs. Anna Look and Mrs. Dan Witzel, both of this city. In addition there are fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Witzel Sunday afternoon at three o'clock. Rev. Edward H. Smith officiating. Interment will be at Riverside.
